Students of SMP Negeri 12 Yogyakarta are increasingly global in the field of student research. Three groups of students with their research results took home three medals, namely one gold, and two silver in the 2023 World Youth Invention and Innovation Award (WYIIA).
To the students who won the medal, awards were given and handed over directly by the Head of Junior High School Development of the DIY Education, Youth and Sports Office (Disdikpora), Hasyim SIP MAcc accompanied by the Principal of SMPN 12 Yogyakarta, Abdurrahman SPd, MPdSi, Monday (16/10).
With this achievement, in addition to recording the name of the school in the international research competition, it also adds points as an outstanding school. From data from the Ministry of Education and Culture and Technology, SMPN 12 is one of the schools that actively collect achievement points in the Yogyakarta City area.

While the two groups that won silver medals, the team from Evangeline Graciella Saputra, Kenzie Wijaya H, Aime Azalea Lova, Rachel Chandra Santosa, Nabila Talitha Athaya Wicaksono. The other team won silver, namely Sherina Aurelia Faizah, Happy Zahra Putri, Revalysha Nadya Safira, Tiffany Putri Sharla, Nawang Sekar Astina.
